The following is an excerpt from an email sent out by John Kerry. I received it from a reader who is on the Kerry email list. Believe it or not, Kerry managed to work WMD into his analysis of the California special election.
This morning, Republicans are making laughable claims of momentum in the 2006 elections. They poured over $5 million dollars of national Republican money into a California special election to hold onto a seat that they've held since it was created by the GOP, for the GOP 15 years ago.
And they eked out a victory by 5,000 votes.Their claims of momentum are as phony as their claims of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Help make today a day of defiant determination by personally joining in a remarkable display of grassroots support for four key Democratic challengers locked in tight House and Senate races in historically Republican districts that are at the tipping point of electing Democrats.
Show them that, come November, we're going to win these elections, and we won't be denied.
He is slipping. I did not see one reference to Halliburton in the entire email.

Do they put 'almost' won in the record books? It seems from the numbers the democrats did not pick up a vote from 2004.
Still holding on to that losing total.
We don't need any more WMD, the dim-wits will succeed in destroying the country if we're not careful.
Hanoi John was simply on a money begging trip which is the only thing he has going for him. Can't get it from the people, get it from momma.

We won, they lost. It's as simple as that. And the were really hoping to mark CA-50 into the D category. Typical Democratic hand-wrigning and spin after (yet another) loss.
But let's not let the boneheaded I-hate-Jorge-Arbusto crowd take credit either. Bilbray may have run on a tough immigration line, and Busby gaffed about as well as anyone can gaffe, but Bilbray ... a former Congressman and K street lobbyist type ... is actually more RINO-ish than your average conservative. And even in San Diego, his tough talk wasn't enough to pull him over 50%. Message ... the rank and file will vote for the GOP candidate, but being an immigration hawk (i.e., a WOT moron) isn't going to carry the day.

Notice also that this race took place in the district which saw one of the worst congressional bribery scandals in decades, within months of the incumbent going to jail.
It also coincided with a statewide Democratic primary for Governor, while the GOP had no contest for the top spot.
The race was targeted nationally by the DNC, the DCCC, and Kos and his moonbat army. That is why the GOP sent a ton of national cash in - to counterbalance the Democratic advantage.
The scenario, playing out with Bush's approval and Congress' approval in the dumper, should have been a perfect opportunity for the Democrats, IF there was going to be some "wave" for them this fall.
I'd rather win a landslide any day, but I'll take the win. And if the other side is happy that they "came close" and "fought the good fight," well, that suits me fine, too. I like a satisfied loser for an opponent.
Of course, with all the losing the Democrats have been doing in recent years, they ought to be getting pretty good at it . . .
;-)

Well the real outcome of CA-50 is that the Dims 'Corruption Campaign' has no legs. With the Cunningham bombshell fresh in memory, in a special election that should not favor the incumbent party, Busby only did 3pts better than either Kerry or Gore in the same district. That is a pretty poor showing.
Polesi/Reid need to come up with a different plan because this ain't carrying a tune.

First, Kerry seems to forget this is a House race, and thus 5000 votes can be a decent win - like four percent Senator. Its not like millions were voting here.
Second, this district, while solidly GOP, is in fact the LEAST Republican district at present in CA - judging by the 2004 election. Cunningham (pre-scandal) was the only incumbent Republican who failed to get 60% or more in his reelection (most of them getting 65% or more - or unopposed)
(The exception was Dreier who got less than 60 as well, but he was specially targetted by an anti-immigration movement trying to send a message to the GOP - otherwise, he wins by 60+ as well)
So bottom line - the Dems need to win some races in Republican districts to gain back the House. This was a PRIME district, as all the pre-voting hopes showed. Now they look pathetic trying to spin this as an expected loss.
Bob Scieffer actually compared Busby's chances with George Wallace winning in Harlem! Of course, he said this AFTER she lost - not before.

You are right.
Kerry didn't mention Halliburton.
Come to think of it, he didn't mention Guantanamo, rendition of foreigners for torture, suspension of the Geneva Conventions and approval of water-boarding, Abu Ghraib, the Katrina fiasco, the NSA Wiretapping, Enron "Kenny-Boy" Lay and the Vice-President's energy task force, Tom DeLay and the gerrymandering fraud, the massive federal deficits, Abramoff visits to the White House, obstruction of Congress by prevention of testimony by White House members on Katrina, the disaster called Plan D for Medicare, and probably a few other failures of Republicans in power.
But at least we are safe from the scourge of homosexuals who might want to get married. And every embryonic stem cell can live to at least 16 cell state without being exploited for Congress. And don't worry, you will have to speak English to sing the National Anthem.
But then again, maybe he did mention it and you just didn't have space to point that out.
Thank God we don't have a flip-flopper like Kerry in the White House! We have a President who makes mistake after mistake and his Party sticks right with him.
