Murtha has a long-held animosity for Steny Hoyer, the current Whip and "heir apparent" for the Leadership if - God forbid! - Pelosi should "move up."
Hoyer isn't/wasn't a "Blue Dog," but he is about the closest thing left in the House with a "D" behind his name. Murtha, of course, is the new darling of the hard left, so ideology gives him some hope in pursuing the vendetta against Hoyer.
OT: Those of you prepared to "stay home" or "vote turd party" this fall need to think long and hard about this.
Get a comfortable chair in a quiet room, loosen your waistband and collar, and relax. Close your eyes, and start repeating softly: "Speaker Pelosi . . . Speaker Pelosi . . . Speaker Pelosi."
Give it three minutes. Then, clear your mind, and take a few deep breaths, exhaling very slowly.
Then go out and find a "RINO" to hug.
:-)

"Speaker Pelosi." Okay, I tried it, but I'm not getting your point. I even exhaled. It will be a lot easier to vote Republican when they start earning votes by following conservative principles again.

Nothing like the Democratic Party actually showing the nation what their leadership will look like if they win back the Congress!!!
Pelosi - Speaker
Murtha - Majority Leader
Conyers - Judiciary
Too funny...
Who are the others. I have heard their preliminary picks - but that was before Memorial Day!!! We have to have a link with tables and picutres of what the respective leadership will look like... Yuk,yuk...

Okay, then, McCain: you would rather see Pelosi as Speaker.
No problem, just as long as we know where you are coming from.
Best regards to the rest of the fringe - 'specially Patzi Buchanan, who must be tickled at so many "conservatives" following his lead into obscurity.

Adjoran,
That is actually a deeper question than you think, or shall I say, deeper than your visceral feelings will allow. History demonstrates that split governments exercise more fiscal discipline, which is a basic tenet of conservatism. If I were only concerned about reducing the size and scope of federal power, there is some advantage to a Democratic House.
Luckily, we don't have to consider judicial nominations when analyzing the best interests of conservatives in the House. But when the considerations turn to foreign policy, it does give one pause for thought.
So just saying "Nancy Pelosi", which is apparently a complete sentence in your mind, doesn't actually communicate a reasoned conservative position.

McCain ~ I never said the phrase "Speaker Pelosi" was a "reasoned conservative position," or, in fact, a complete sentence. Are you on hallucinogenic drugs?
Apparently you are, if you think a Pelosi-led House would be more fiscally responsible than Hastert's. The only things they would spend less upon would be the military and the prosecution of the war, and national security items generally.
But, if you are inclined to desert the GOP ~ begone! Don't let the screen door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya!
You will soon see just how much splintering off will increase your influence on policy - just as Buchanan and Phillips did.
Self-described "conservatives" ought know better. If they leave, and Republicans win anyway, they need pay no attention to the deserters at all in the future. If the Republicans lose, they will waste no time attempting to woo back such fickle fellows, and seek more voters from the middle of the road - again, paying LESS attention to desires of the departed.

Actually, the GOP is talking up fiscal responsibility again lately precisely because of sentiments like mine. We'll see if they actually follow through to earn my vote.
What is certain is they won't return to conservative principles because of you, since you don't require the party to actually perform to earn your vote. In other words, you are as irrelevant as you are blissfully content. You give support mindlessly like a Cubs fan supports his home team. If the GOP is to return to conservatism, it will be because of me, while you continue to chew peanuts in the bleachers.

Murtha is having his 15 minutes of fame beofr Pelosi eats him for lunch. He thinks because he has gotten love letters from a few nut cases from KOS and DU and has been on the leftwing media for interviews that somehow he has made it.

"Speaker Pelosi" - not so bad when you consider for how long the GOP had former congressman DeLay in a leadership position. There's no honor among thieves -- and little more among Republicans. It's disgusting and disgraceful, but accurate, that to be Republican is to possess a major flaw in character.

I think Murtha would make a great majority leader for the dems. He is one of the few Dems that do have the "core values" that a lot have lost. Also, I don't believe his plan was to cut and run, but to redeploy our troops. Somehow, the media has spun that around.
