2006 Pennsylvania Senate and Governor Races

A new Strategic Vision Poll in Pennsylvania reports that the Democrats continue to lead in the Keystone State, but that the situation is not quite so dire as the Quinnipiac Poll would indicate. Bobby Casey Jr. leads Rick Santorum 49%-40%. However, Santorum has a 46% job approval rating, so he should continue to improve. Meanwhile, Ed Rendell leads Lynn Swann 49%-38%, with 2% going to Russ Diamond. However, Swann continues to enjoy much better favorable ratings than Rendell. The former Steelers star has 50%-37% favorable numbers, while the incumbent only enjoys a 46%-40% split.

Santorum needs to have a major negative campaign ready to go soon. His approval ratings aren't high enough to win without raising his opponent's negatives.

Bob, Jr. is still not all that well known to the voting public. Santorum should define him to them, and force him onto the defensive - which is where inexperienced candidates tend to screw up badly.

Swann has an uphill climb, but it is still doable because of Rendell's own numbers. His money disadvantage may kill him though, unless some major financing comes through soon.

AKM, I'm getting a little nervous about these races. Swann and Santorum are two wins we desperately need in November.

And hasn't Casey just come off a HUGE ad campaign, while Swann is just getting started on his public advertising?

I just realized that the last post wasn't clear that I really intended to talk about two races -- Rendell v Swann and Casey v Santorum. My sentence looks as if I'm assuming one was running against the other. Sorry, my bac.

Most definately was hoping too see some improvement for Rick, but it seems he stuck in this 8/9 point area, not a good sign.

Charlie O:

Why would you people support a guy to represent PA who doesn't even live here. Santorum lives in Leesburg, VA. Pull your heads out of rectums and realize that people are sick of religious crackpots like Rick boy.
