I wouldn't want to be in the Democrats' shoes right now. Momentum has clearly shifted to the GOP's side. I wrote something about that in this evaluation of Larry Sabato's latest crystal ball reading. Methinks that it's time to get some Windex action on that crystal ball.

It looks to me that Washington voters are still as evenly divided on state wide races as they were in the last Governor's race. A steal up in Washington would be quite a coup.

The Dems have revealed their true selves so blatantly of late, am I the only one who expects the Republicans to exceed expectations this November? I can actually see us gaining seats, or hardly losing any. As bad as Republicans have been (and I gave what-for to another GOP fundraiser today), the Dems have not only not capitalized on it but have been many times worse. The antics of the MSM only add to Dems' woes and play into Republicans' hands.

The New York and Los Angeles Times stories should elect 4 to 6 Republican Senators and 15 to 25 Republican Congressmen who many thought were "in trouble". NOT ANY MORE!

Peg, I never bought into the 'sinking ship' theory because I never lost faith in Democrats' ability to say the dumbest things at the worst possible time. That's why I've never put any weight to the generic ballot numbers.
Imaginary Democrats always run better than the real kind.

Charles I doubt the GOP is out of the woods yet, but as usual the action of the Democrats over recent weeks have killed any momentem they had and have helped highlight the gop messaging. I swear they will never learn to just STFU when they're ahead.

It's almost unheard-of for a President with a good economy to be as low in job approval numbers as Bush has been, which ought to make us wonder more about the quality of the polls than the mood of the electorate.
Gary Gross ~ Nice job deconstructing Sabato, who was a far better analyst before he became famous for it. I would only add that there were 28 open seats coming into this year, including Cal-50, and 17 of those are currently held by Democrats.
But I don't begrudge the moonbats their celebrating of all these polls and analyses which conclude they have strong hope to win this fall. They were doing the same thing in '02 and '04, as well.

You also forgot to defend the idea that this is a "good economy." Any economy where all of the growth and benefits are concentrated at the top is not good for the 260 million people are dealing with flat wages, soaring health care and heating costs, and just had their debt increase because the Federal Reserve wants to keep the economy cool.
Man, its great to know that some people will sink with the ship, kissing the captain's ass the whole way without asking for a change or grabbing a bucket to empty water. No one ever stops to think that it is just as pathological to love your party and its leader as it is to hate anothers. If the people who "hate Bush no matter what" are moonbats, then the people who "love Bush no matter what" are just as crazy.

I never believed the ship was sinking either but the Dems did.
IMHO, I think the Dems did a "Sally Fields". The polls were looking so good to them they said, "YOU LIKE ME, YOU LIKE US!"
Their mistake was concluding the favorable polls meant the American Public like the polices and their stance on the war (whatever those are). They felt liberated enough and thought America was ready for Liberalism. So they acted on that conclusion. Not a smart!

Economic growth is clicking along at 5.6%. Inflation is under control, unemployment is down, total employment is up, confidence is rising, profits are up, the deficit is shrinking . . .
Anyone who can look at the actual data from the last eighteen months and NOT see a "good economy" is an idiot.
The only real question is, "Is this the best economy of ALL TIME? and, if not, WHY not?"

Ask Americans how much inflation, growth, and corporate profits affect their ability to find and hold a decent job and pay for their way of life. If things are so good, why is debt so high, why are wages so low, and why is confidence still down?
There are no unions, a permissive business atmosphere, and no one in power looking out for the interests of 85% of Americans.
Chinese growth is strong too. Do you think that people over there are enjoying the economy?
I will agree that a growing economy is better than the opposite, but I would rather have these metrics mixed or down but Americans able to find a job and pay their bills than just good numbers.
