The lad probably decided not to follow his brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather into the Navy after hearing this old anecdote:
A sailor is in the Men's room at the urinal. As he finishes and goes to the sink to wash up, a Marine enters, hits the urinal, zips up, and walks back to the door. As he opens it, the sailor says in a loud voice, "In the Navy, they teach us to wash our hands after we pee."
The Marine pauses a second and says, "In the Marines, they teach us not to pee on our hands," and walks out.
Hoo-rah!
