2006 Pennsylvania Governor and Senate Race

There is some very good news for Republicans in Pennsylvania tonight. First, third-party candidate Russ Diamond, who would have taken votes from Lynn Swann, dropped his gubernatorial candidacy.

Second, the candidates of the Pennsylvania Green Party announced that they had received more than enough signatures to get them on the ballot this fall. While the Greens may not pose much of a challenge to Ed Rendell, they pose a threat to "Bobbie" Casey, Jr., especially given the intolerance of Democrats today to accept anyone who wavers from party doctrine.

Every little bit helps . . .

You know, if it weren't for Philly and its burbs, PA would be a dependably red state. Which reminds me of the old joke about a contest: 1st Prize was a week in Philadelphia. 2nd Prize was two weeks . . .

Yeah, if we got rid of the all the cities, and all of our universities, and our knowledge, and just had a rural nation with Christian colleges, it would be 1840 again and all of the GOP rhetoric would be common knowledge and we would win!

And the Democrats would be so lucky if the whole country was NYC or Chicago or Minneapolis. I mean, the joke is funny in the right context, but of course democracy fails if you ignore a big chunk of a state's population.

The US would be so blue without the evangelical Christian population....
