2006 Vermont Governor, Senate, and House Races

American Research Group has a new poll out examining all three high-profile races in Vermont.

In the Gubernatorial race, Jim Douglas leads his Democratic rival by 11 points.

In the Senate race, Richard Tarrant trails Bernie Sanders 56%-35%. While Tarrant still trails, it is a good sign that he is doing better. If he breaks 40% (possible if the 9% or so of undecideds go his way), he may be a viable candidate in future statewide races, for example, in 2008 if Jim Douglas does not seek a fourth term.

Finally, in the House race, it looks like Republicans have a shot at picking up a House seat in Vermont. Martha Rainville, the Republican, leads Peter Welch, the Democrat, 42% to 41%. It would be the very height of irony if Democrats fall short in their bid to retake the House because they lose a seat in Howard Dean's backyard.
