In case the title did not give it away, the Democratic primary in Georgia's 4th congressional district is the race between Cynthia McKinney and challenger Hank Johnson. The latest polls showed McKinney down about 13 points. Early returns in this race could begin in the next hour.
Election returns can be found here.
Update (8:15 p.m.) -- Early results with 4% of precincts reporting (just 7 precincts) show Johnson leading McKinney 74.8 to 25.2 percent.
Update (9:00 p.m.) -- 12% of precincts reporting
Johnson -- 2466 (73.9)
McKinney -- 873 (26.1)
Update (9:10 p.m.): Tracking the result on the "crazy scale." If anyone wants to give me any grief about chosing this post title, consider this -- McKinney staffer grabs news photographer.
When 11Alive photojournalist Kathy Bourn first caught up with McKinney, her supporters waved some signs while she remained in her vehicle. Can it get any more fun than this? Her staff asked photographers to keep their distance -- which they did -- until McKinney rolled down her window and motioned to a reporter. The photographers approached, thinking she was about to give an on-camera interview.
At that point, a staffer again got between the vehicle and 11Alive's Kathy Bourn.
"That's right, and I'll touch you again, if you do it again," the staffer said.
It's a sign of just how high emotions are in this runoff battle right now.
McKinney herself had complained about the actions of a male Capitol Police officer during an altercation at a checkpoint earlier this year.
This was a case of a male staffer touching a female photographer. Bourn said no blows were thrown, but her wrist was grabbed and there was some bumping.
McKinney campaign manager John Evans says he would look into the matter.
Wizbang Politics readers please feel free to rate the race from 1 to 10 on a crazy scale in the comments section. I don't know whether or not this will work since we probably had to begin with about an 8.5 just based on general McKinney craziness. The photographer grabbing incident probably puts us near 10, but a duet and a dance with Cindy Sheehan, would definitely put us there. Maybe we will even get some new 9/11 conspiracy theories.
Update 11:40: The race has officially been called for Johnson. I thought it would be good to see McKinney defeated -- the McKinney that pushed 9/11 conspiracy theories and assaulted Capital Hill police and danced with Cindy Sheehan. It is good, but now I am a bit sad. It was a disgrace that she sat in the House of Representatives, and now she won't. (But it is also a disgrace that John Conyers and John Murtha and many others are there.) I am very glad to know that the majority of Democratic voters in Georgia's 4th district are not insane. I am also very glad that McKinney will no longer have a vote that affects me and the rest of the citizens of the United States. But I would not be honest if I did not admit that I will miss the entertainment value McKinney provided. Boy will I ever.
Update (12:08 a.m.):Jim Addison just pointed out that over 28,000 people voted for that "fool woman." What a depressing thought.

I'm trying to imagine Congress without Cynthia McKinney . . . it must have been very quiet that term when she lost to Majette.
What sort of job will she get if she loses?
Librarian - nah, that's out, ya gotta be quiet and be able to read.
Desk Clerk, Holiday Inn Express, maybe? No, they have to be helpful and friendly.
Rocket scientist? Don't know if we can let her too close to highly flammable stuff.
Cook, McDonald's? The Health Dept. will have something to say about that . . .
I just don't know what she could do with herself if she loses.

I hope Cynthia gets her comeuppance. There are quite a few Democrat (and Republican) politicians like her that I would like to see lose in November. And I'm not talking race at all....just whacked out idealogy.

8:50 pm - the GA election board reports 12% of precincts reporting, Johnson 73.9% - McKinney 26.1%.
Doesn't look good for the Bugeyed Berserker, but the early returns could be from a Johnson stronghold.
Cynthia will be counting on a big vote from the prisons and asylums, and they always report late.

James beat me to it. Definitely 11. According to Fox News, Mckinney's campaign is already alledging voter fraud.
That'll be hard to prove when she loses by double digits in a heavily democratic district -- in the democratic runoff.
Congress gains about ten points of respectability the day she steps down.

I don't think it's a good idea to say anything close to "10." Like Olympic judges, we should leave room for a better score later. CK often surprises, no matter how long you've known she's nuts.
With 51% in, Johnson 17,947 58.1%
McKinney 12,945 41.9%
This women represents, in theory, over 680,000 people, and only about 60,000 of them are going to vote?
Pitiful.

As a Georgia 4th Democrat who is glad to see McKinney go, let me take this opportunity to let you know that I don't give a 2-penny damn what you think about us. McKinney's ill-conceived comments concerning 9/11 not withstanding, it's not her positions in general or voting record but her combativeness, arrogance and lack of tact that so ill serve her constituency. The primary winner, Hank Johnson, is still a liberal, in one of the most liberal congressional districts in the nation, and I don't think that, should he win election this fall, you'd be particularly thrilled with his positions on most of the issues. I also don't care for your lumping McKinney with Murtha and Conyers. They've been instrumental in bringing to light this administration's total lack of competence regarding Iraq and the deceitful way in which it was sold as the frontline in the WOT.

R. Mutt-
I may have the wrong idea about what a "2 penny damn" is, but if that is the case, why are you reading and commenting here?
I am glad to see McKinney replaced with anyone, regardless how liberal, who will not spread 9/11 kook conspiracy theories, ignore Capitol Hill security measures and assault officers.
As for Conyers, I don't think he deserves to be there if he is using taxpayer paid employees as personal babysitters. I also think it is a disgrace that he is being paid by taxpayers to spout kook theories. As for Murtha, I don't care for him playing prosecutor, judge and jury to our "cold blooded murderer" troops. Even if they are eventually found guilty of crimes, U.S. soldiers and Marines deserve at least what every criminal in this country has -- the presumption of innocence, especially in a time of war. People like my husband who served six years in the Corps do not care for Murtha's political grandstanding.
