The Arizona Daily Star took a look at an ad put on TV by leading Democratic contender Gabrielle Giffords, and concluded she "skirts the truth." Actually, it was a bald-faced, outright lie:
Fact check: Giffords never blocked a vote on the bill she's citing. She missed a vote that would have killed the legislation.
Giffords did delay the bill's introduction by one day by asking for a quorum call, but that wasn't "late night," it was a day session and had no effect on the bill as she claimed. She wasn't even there the day of the vote:
If Giffords had been present to vote -- and voted against the bills -- she would have created a tie, killing the bills in committee.Without her vote, the bill went to the floor for debate and amendments but never went up for a full vote since the House had already passed budget bills.

UPDATED to add: I should note this is an open seat held by the retiring Jim Kolbe. It is a Republican-leaning district, but not overwhelmingly so, and is considered a target this year. Primaries for both parties are September 12th.

I'm glad to see people picking up on the fact that Giffords has set about to intentionally deceive the voters of District 8.
This election is about restoring integrity to Washington. The Democratic Party can do this-- but not if we elect a "Democrat" in September who, if she does somehow manage to win in November, is already just as corrupt as the rest of 'em.

Let's hope the Star puts out more of this good work.

They are keeping an eye on ALL the candidates' ads, as they should.
It's nice that some media outlets remember what their job is.
There are plenty of politicians with and without integrity in both parties. It's the nature of the job to attract people who crave the spotlight and power, and among such people there will always be those who seek to bend the rules or who believe rules don't apply to them.
The important thing is, when we DO manage to catch them in the act, to make them pay the consequences. That's not only to ensure the offenders get their just desserts, but even more to warn all the others that we are watching and will act where necessary.
