Although he had to stay up late Tuesday night to find he had won the Republican nomination, Doub Lamborn begins the general election campaign a heavy favorite to replace the retiring Rep. Joel Hefley. The Cañon City Daily Record reports HERE:
State Sen. Doug Lamborn's dramatic, late-night victory Tuesday put him in a position he should enjoy in the battle to replace retiring U.S. Congressman Joel Hefley.
The 5th District is nearly two-to-one registered Republicans to Democrats and has never voted a Democrat to this seat.But, don't say that to Jay Fawcett.
"The media seems to have latched on to this self-fulfilling prophecy," said Fawcett, referring to news organizations that have not given a Democrat much of a shot in this race. "Let the voters vote, they do a pretty good job of that."

Fawcett is a formidable opponent, with a military combat record and more money raised already than any Democratic candidate for this seat in the past. Still, it's a Republican seat - if Lamborn loses, it probably means a very bad night for the GOP.
