As if Republican challenger John Dendahl didn't have enough problems taking on incumbent Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson, now he's managed to anger both of the state's teachers' unions. The Albuquerque Tribune government reporter, Kate Nash, has been following the race and covers the latest flap:
The head of the state NEA and the AFT New Mexico say GOP gubernatorial candidate John Dendahl should resign his candidacy.
The groups say Dendahl has been disrespectful to teachers by making comments that teachers are focused on teaching sexuality, socialism and self-esteem. After the state earlier this month after the state released school academic progress reports, he called the results "pathetic."

The popular Richardson is of course a prohibitive favorite for reelection, so the major analysts have paid no attention to this contest. Dendahl can probably afford to take chances in order to stir something up and maybe strike a chord with the voters, since he has little to lose by gambling.

Problem is, Dendahl is right. That's EXACTLY what the focus of public schools are. I went through that meatgrinder, and they try to make all the students into mind-numbed Socialist robots who think Conservatives are evil. Time to smash their Stalinist monopoly into a billion pieces.

Why is this a negative? This is a huge positive for Dendahl. He will gain a great deal of support among libertarian-minded NM voters who distrust the Teachers Unions for speaking the truth.
You're a hero John!!
