2006 Pennsylvania Governor Race

I just saw on Philadelphia television an ad, supposed to be from the state department of tourism, which basically featured Ed Rendell gushing on and on about Pittsburgh.

One has to hand it to Rendell. Everyone seems to think he is the greatest politician in the history of Pennsylvania. I would say he is the most cheap, cynical political hack in history of Pennsylvania. And that is quite an accomplishment.

There has been a trend for ... (Below threshold)
Jim Addison:

There has been a trend for several years now where state Governors appear personally in the ads promoting the state to tourists. While these theoretically would run OUT of state to bring in new tourism, they always managed to get a fair amount of airplay within the given state, which was designed to boost the Governor's image.

I suppose it was inevitable that someone would release a new ad series during an election campaign, essentially using taxpayer dollars to help the incumbent on the flimsy pretext of promoting the state.

Sleazy, and of questionable ethics, but inevitable.
