2006 Alaska Governor Race

It looks fairly certain that Frank Murkowski is going to lose re-nomination in the Alaska Republican Gubernatorial Primary. As this article indicates, Murkowski had a long and popular tenure as the junior Senator from Alaska for over two decades. However, his gubernatorial tenure has been one disaster after another.

Luckily, according to recent polling, it seems any other Republican nominee will defeat the Democratic nominee, the former Governor who lost to Murkowski's daughter in the 2004 Senate race. Thus I rate this race as Likely Republican.

I think that tax bill is the one Murkowski is fighting. It has the potential to kill the pipeline deal.

It's all well and fine to think you can fleece the oil companies while their profits are high, but they know oil and gas is coming down again. The taxes won't.

But since the primary is today, Murkowski - and the pipeline - are probably history.

This is Sarah Palin's baby now. She can start measuring for the curtains in Frank's office now.
