We reported on this race last week, and also linked to Sen. Santorum's interview with Townhall.com.
Now his Democratic opponent, Bob Casey, Jr., has spoken with the Washington Times. If you read the whole thing, you'll know why Casey avoids questions and debates:
Q: You have said you would roll back President Bush's tax cuts for the top 1 percent of wealthiest Americans. Would you have opposed the entire tax cut package -- that included a wide array of popular tax cuts -- in order to block that top 1 percent?
A: It's difficult for me to enumerate every one. There are several tax cuts that have broad support and are important to build a strong economy -- certainly the child tax credit, the efforts to remove the marriage penalty, research and development tax cuts. Tax cuts that are focused on helping middle-income families, helping small business make a lot of sense. But I think the top 1 percent tax cut -- it's wrong just to think about it as something that is unfair or just a question of what the rich get. It's fiscally irresponsible, especially at a time of war, a time of deficit, a time of real failure by this White House to do anything real about health care. If you're going to give a tax cut to the top 1 percent, at least in this country at this time in this economy, by definition, you have just told the American people that we're not going to make lowering the cost of health care a priority and we're not going to lower the deficit.
Q: So, you would have voted for or against the Bush tax cut packages?
A: I would support a whole menu of tax cuts like the ones I described. Without enumerating every one, there are a lot of them that make a good deal of sense. But the top 1 percent -- it's showing us now that it didn't work and we can't afford them.Q: So, while you support tax cuts in general, you would have voted against the Bush tax cut package as presented to Congress?
A: I would not have supported the top 1 percent.Q: But they weren't separated out.
A: Well, I wasn't in the Senate.
Yeah, and with any luck, he never WILL be! Read it ALL at the link above. ALL of it - his squirming evasions on Social Security are even better - they are on page 2 of the interview.

Someone (not us working stiffs who got a great tax cut) put a lot of money in the treasury. If it wasn't the top 1% then we'd better investigate North Korea and Iran. They're paying taxes on the counterfeit money. Some fools (i'd like to see his "complete' tax return) would complain if hanged with a new rope, a definate possibility if the lefties keep up the anti-american BS.

Back in the spring when Casey was up by double digits, I read an article (can't remember where) that predicted that once the campaign got underway and Casey had to actually go out and "make his case" (i.e. go on TV etc), he would become more and more unattractive to the voters. That appears to have been a dead-on analysis.
The other question is why Santorum's apporval ratings have gone up (not that I'm complaining). I'm just wondering why. It can't be all due to the fact that Casey looks pretty bad.
Or could that press conference he called back in May or June about the chemical weapons that were found in Iraq been the turning point?
I think one debate between the 2 wouldbe enough for Santorum to beat this guy.

Yes, Casey garnered huge leads with a "stealth campaign." The more he is seen by voters, the fewer votes he will get.
There are two primary reasons for this:
1). Many voters still don't realize he isn't his late father, and once they do, they will take another, more critical look at him.
2). He's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas Tree, if you get my drift . . .

I am voting for casey. We need to get out of Iraq in the next couple of years. Additionally, Santorum is a creep. He actually brought his dead premature baby home from the hospital so his children could see. I don't want someone with that kind of judgement making decisions about national security and the like. Rick Santorum is to far right. I think Casey is somewhere in the middle.
