We've been hearing questions on how write-in votes are counted in Texas, since the "Republican" candidate for Tom DeLay's old seat in Texas' 22nd District will not be listed on the ballot. Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs has her work cut out for her, but many variations of her name may count, and she expects funding from the national GOP, as Bob Dunn of FortBendNow reports:
Forced by legal circumstances to run as a write-in candidate, the Houston city councilwoman with the hyphenated name also faces the challenge of showing supporters what they have to do to cast a vote for her.
In announcing an end to his write-in bid for Congress, Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace said Monday that Texas GOP Chairman Tina Benkiser stated "she had a commitment for $3 million for this race from Washington" as long as there was only one GOP write-in candidate.Sekula-Gibbs said Wednesday she doesn't recall who said it, but "that has been suggested to me, that that would be available. That's a very important part - that there would be adequate funding" to run a major campaign.
That's because Democratic challenger Nick Lampson has been raising money - and now is believed to have nearly $3 million in his war chest - while the Republicans were unable for months to have a declared candidate.

A list of write-in candidates' names is posted at each booth, and certain variations will be programmed in to be accepted ahead of time, but beyond that the election boards will have to discern "voter intent."
"Voter intent." Now, where have I heard that before? And, do chads hang from electronic voting screens?
