Incumbent Republican Senator Mike DeWine's latest ad hits Democratic challenger Rep. Sherrod Brown, as Brad Dicken of The Chronicle-Telegram reports:
U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine fired his latest volley at his Democratic rival Friday, attacking U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown in a television commercial for voting against lowering taxes, the Patriot Act and retirement benefits.
"Incredibly, Congressman Brown voted 'no' each and every time," DeWine said in the ad, filmed on the front porch of his Cedarville home.DeWine, the Republican incumbent, also touted his ability to work with Democrats in the ad, something he said he believes it is the "only way to solve our problems."
Brown, D-Avon, was on vacation and unavailable for comment Friday, but Joanna Keubler, a campaign spokeswoman, said DeWine is distorting Brown's record.

Meanwhile, the latest polls have Brown ahead by 3%, according to Rasmussen Reports:
Once again, the challenger in Ohio's highly competitive race for U.S. Senate has edged out the GOP incumbent in the Rasmussen Reports election poll. Democrat Sherrod Brown now leads Republican Senator Mike DeWine 45% to 42%.
The one-point improvement for Brown since July doesn't mean much, except perhaps to political junkies gulping down popcorn in the front row. But the fact that the challenger has a narrow lead in three out of the last four polls is significant.Early in the year, DeWine was consistently ahead. Even though the incumbent had a seven-point advantage in June, our three-poll rolling average confirms a long-term if very gradual movement in Brown's direction.
Read it all at link above. What Rasmussen fails to note is that his June poll showing DeWine ahead was the only poll since May that failed to show Brown ahead. RealClearPolitics has the average of recent polls at Brown +6.3%. As with all polls at this stage, we should remember there was a reason campaigns traditionally have "kicked off" at Labor Day: nobody is really paying any attention before then.
