Nevada 2nd CD - Primary results challenged

When we reported Nevada's primary results, it appeared that Secretary of State Dean Heller was easily winning the Republican nomination to replace Rep. Jim Gibbons, who is running for Governor.

Not so fast. The race tightened up considerably, with State Sen. Sharron Angle closing to within 421 votes. Now she plans to SUE, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

Failed GOP primary congressional candidate Sharron Angle said Friday that she will file a lawsuit in state court seeking a new election in her narrow loss to Secretary of State Dean Heller.

Angle, flanked by about 25 supporters, said some Washoe County voters were disenfranchised on Election Day, and as a result, her 421-vote loss to Heller is not valid.

"The registrar of voters does not know who the winner of this election is because of the errors committed during this election," she said. "What we want is for them to give us a new election where we will have every vote counted and every voter who wants to vote to have the opportunity to vote."

Angle, a Reno assemblywoman who had considered seeking a recount of her narrow defeat to Heller in the 2nd Congressional District primary, said such a process would not address the unknown number of voters who did not get to cast a ballot on Election Day.

Read the rest at link above.

The dumb cluck knows she would lose a recount, so she plays Democrat and runs to court? This seat is rated only slightly "Lean Republican" by the analysts; if Angle's ridiculous antics as a poor loser cost us this House seat, I hope Nevada Republicans are sensible enough never to elect her to anything ever again.

Sharron Angle was the ONLY ... (Below threshold)
The Exposer:

Sharron Angle was the ONLY decent Republican Conservative in the race. Heller and Dawn Gibbons were both RINOs. Unfortunately, with no runoff option in this state, which is also lacking in too many other states, Heller likely would've had a problem in facing Angle in a runoff. We need to start implementing runoffs to halt these RINOs from winning small pluralities when they clearly do NOT represent the bulk of the base voters in a given district.

I don't see how Angle benefits from a run-off, if Heller and Gibbons were both "RINOs" as you say. It would seem more likely Heller would pick up the Gibbons vote.

Be that as it may, going to court to overturn the election results on such flimsy grounds is hardly a "conservative" position. Neither is seeking to divide the party for no particular reason, risking a Democratic takeover.

Ed Torres:

I agree with Jim, and I would really like to see some evidence that Heller is a RINO.
