2006 Maryland Senate Race

According to a new poll out in Maryland, Congressman Benjamin Cardin has established a double digit lead over former Congressman Kweisi Mfume. The poll contains a general election match up, showing the Republican Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele beating Mfume by four points but losing to Cardin by five.

It should be noted though that this poll was taken before the high-profile endorsements of Mfume by two members of the Democratic Congressional delegation. I have not seen the internals of this poll yet, but when I do, I will examine them for what they bode in the final few weeks of the campaign.

The poll ended August 25th,... (Below threshold)

The poll ended August 25th, the same day former Governor Glendening endorsed Mfume.

I doubt the two black congressmen's endorsement will have much effect. Not sure about the former Governor's - he left amidst controversy which contributed to Republican Governor Ehrlich winning his first term.

The pollster points out that Steele is within competitive range at this point, though. That's good news.
