2006 Michigan Senate Race

The poll in Michigan also has some new numbers on the Senate race between Democratic incumbent Deborah Stabenow and Republican challenger Michael Bouchard.

"Incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow leads her Republican challenger, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, 50% to 37% in her race for re-election, the Free Press-Local 4 poll shows.

But with more than two months until Election Day, the lawmaker from Lansing may know better than anyone that the margin doesn't mean the race is over. Six weeks before the election in 2000, she was down by 13 percentage points in a race against Republican U.S. Sen. Spencer Abraham. On Election Day, she won by 1 percentage point."

This is most certainly a race that Republicans should target. It cannot hurt, given the fact that the Gubernatorial race is also a top GOP target.

Between Gov. Granholm's dis... (Below threshold)

Between Gov. Granholm's dismal record, and Sen. Stabenow's lackluster performance, these seats should both be a prime target for GOP takeover. They are the very definition of "weak incumbents."

How the actual tallies come out will be a fairly good gauge of Republican prospects in Michigan and nationally on Election Night. If both are at least close, it will be a reasonably good night for the GOP.

Ugh.That should re... (Below threshold)

Ugh.

That should read, "... should EACH be a prime target ..." or "... be prime targetS ..."

Sorry.
