RIP, Nellie Connally and Bob Mathias

Two figures prominent in American history of the 20th Century have passed on.

Nellie Connally, wife of the late Texas Governor and Treasury Secretary John Connally, died late Friday night at an Austin nursing home, the Washington Times reports. A long-term breast cancer and diabetes survivor, Mrs. Connally was the last surviving person riding with President Kennedy when he was assassinated in Dallas.

Bob Mathias, two-time Olympic decathalon gold medalist and four-term congressman from California, died yesterday at his home in Fresno. He was 75, reports the Washington Post's Martin Weil.

Their friends and families are in our thoughts and prayers. May they rest in peace.
