A Little Bit of This and That

According to one columnist the Democrats and Republicans are now tied so whatever happens over the next six Tuesdays will determine the outcome. I guess that is the case in most elections, but especially this year, it does seem quite a few are going down to the wire.

This is a story about the "Swiftboating" of John Murtha. Sorry, but if Murtha loses he has only himself to blame. It sounds like there just might be a whole lotta CYA ahead of time in case he loses to Irey.

Can Foley be replaced on the ballot and if so who should do it?

Over at NRO's <a href="http... (Below threshold)

Over at NRO's Sixers, the actual Florida statute was posted, but it makes little sense:

If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot.

That means no primary-nominated candidate can be replaced on the ballot, since he couldn't - obviously - be "replaced" before the results are certified anyway. The GOP can name a replacement who will then stand to get any votes for Foley, but changing the name on the ballot itself is unlikely.

Oh, yeah - the Democrats did it two years ago, but we aren't dealing with impartial jurists in Florida, as we should well remember.
