We last reported on this race just after the news that Democratic nominee, Denver DA Bill Ritter, had allowed at least 150 criminal aliens to plea bargain down to "agricultural trespass" from serious drug and violent crimes to avoid deportation. In the few days since, Republican nominee Rep. Bob Beauprez has been hammering away at Ritter's record.
It seems to have been working, as COgirl notes at Hang Right Politics:
It seems to be a foregone conclusion here in Colorado that Democrat Bill Ritter will win the race for governor against Republican Congressman Bob Beauprez. However, in today's Rocky Mountain News there was this encouraging story, Pollster: Ritter lead drops in 2 districts.
Read her whole post at the link above. I found the article she linked to very interesting in several respects. Stuart Steers of Rocky Mountain News writes:
"I fear we are beginning to watch a trend develop," wrote Myers. "I am also concerned about the attacks Ritter is enduring and to what extent they are not only energizing Beauprez's base, but also creating some real doubts among the swing independent voters."
Both Myers and Delpapa consult for Democratic "527" groups, organizations that under federal law are allowed to raise unlimited amounts of money but cannot work directly with candidates. Many of the attack ads in campaigns are funded by the 527s.
Read the entire story at the link above, including THIS:
Myers declined to say which 527 groups he consults for, but he said Beauprez could be vulnerable to criticism on the illegal immigration issue.
Wow, a big "secret" consultant, eh? Does he need to keep his 527s quiet because Ritter's campaign might be embarassed at getting help from the extreme moonbat left?
Hmmmm . . .
