Santorum Earns a Fan

Dean Barnett watched the tape of the Santorum - Casey debate and was mighty impressed by Santorum. Casey, on the other hand, didn't do much for him.

While Santorum was great, the real highlights of the debate came from Casey. I'm not exaggerating here - Casey came across as a unibrowed version of Chance the Gardener. If he had responded to a question on tax policy by telling the audience that for the garden to bloom in May it must lie fallow in February, I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised.

The unquestioned high point of the debate came when Santorum defied Casey to identify the high ranking Iranian mullah muckety-muck that the state department recently (and idiotically) granted a visa to. Amazingly, Casey could not produce the name Khatami.

There's an even more incredible aspect to that exchange that becomes apparent only when you really think about it. Santorum was so confident of Casey's ignorance, he knew he could toss him an easy one like challenging him to identify Khatami and not worry about Casey showing him up by actually having a clue.

I liked the part where Sant... (Below threshold)

I liked the part where Santorum kept challenging Casey to look at the camera and tell the voters how many full days of work he had put in as Treasurer in the last month.

Santorum managed to campaign and still not miss much Senate work in DC. Casey has kept a limited schedule, but still can't be bothered to show up for the job he already has.

I saw that part of the debates too and Santorum wiped the floor with Casey, but the press has drubbed Santorum incessantly. It would be beautiful if Casey lost.

What is this fettish in the NE about political royalty? Look at all the stinking Kennedys, and Bob Casey Jr... sigh

Legacy politics usually produces sad incompetents like Al Gore. From the looks of things Casey has this position because of his name, Jr.

Speaking of WaPoo fluff pieces - today there were four, one of which was a fawn job over the unlikely hero Casey...

(guess they couldn't include him in the "beautiful democrats" powder puff piece from Saturday)

All from the newspaper that could launch a thousand lies.
