Highlighting the supposed new competitiveness of the Virginia Senate race, next Thursday will see the current and former Presidents raising money for their parties' candidates, as Bob Lewis of the Daily Press reports:
Both candidates in Virginia's closely watched U.S. Senate race get a boost Thursday from presidents past and present.
President Bush will visit Richmond to headline an invitation-only fundraiser for Republican Sen. George Allen at a private residence. The event will be the second fundraising appearance the president has made for Allen, one of his most loyal Senate supporters, in two months. Bush was the main attraction at an Aug. 23 Allen fundraiser at the Fairfax County home of former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie.
The same day, former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to be the top draw at an evening fundraiser for Democrat Jim Webb, a former Republican who served as Navy secretary for President Reagan.
The event will be at the McLean home of former Sen. Chuck Robb, the Democrat Allen defeated in 2000.

Interesting that Clinton attends a fundraiser for Webb at Robb's home. In 2000, Webb called Clinton "the most corrupt Administration in history," endorsed Allen for Senate - over Robb. Audio files of his statements are available, courtesy of Greg Pollowitz of NRO's Sixers. Webb had some nice things to say about Democratic interest groups, then, too.
Funny how the Democrats rush to Webb's support after he talked about them as he did, isn't it?
Funny how Webb sucks up to them now, too, isn't it?

It's over and the fat lady is singing. Bill Clinton is always the kiss of death for any candidate he stumps for.
You'd think the Democratic party would figure that out. Or maybe they have and they just can't do anything about it.

I think Webb found a president who is even worse than Clinton.

Jeremy - Clinton never got over 50% of the vote. Without Perot he wouldn't have been President. Since leaving office in 2000 Clinton hasn't backed a winner.
