15 years or so ago, Newsweek began turning sharply to the left with a new editor and many new staffers. Before that, they had been the liberal-moderate newsmag.
I have to give them due respect, though, in that they still do have several real reporters and do from time to time get the facts and significance of a story first. And they also sometimes have good ideas for features, such as their email interviews with Senate opponents. The format is an excellent one, as the candidates need not fear misstating their position, being able to reflect and confer before replying. The citizens can then get a better look inside their minds, and a better sense of who they really are and where they really stand.
The current installment of "Face Off" is Santorum vs Casey in Pennsylvania. Read it all, then ask yourself which candidate shows greater depth of thought and a desire to illuminate his answers, and who just wishes to rephrase his regular talking points and keep his answers as brief and general as possible.
On the first page (the one linked above) there are also links to "Face Offs" between Senate contenders in other states.
I beat up on the fMSM frequently, so it's only fair to give Newsweek a big "two thumbs up!" for getting this right.
Hey, imagine that: media providing genuinely useful and unfiltered information to their readers so they can make up their own minds . . . could that "old school" style catch on again?
.
Nah.
UPDATE: Edited for clarity.
