The race to replace retiring Republican Henry Hyde in Illinois' 6th district has been in the national spotlight all year. While Hyde was never seriously challenged, the district in suburban Chicago has become less and less Republican over the years. Democrats nominated disabled Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth for the seat, opposing Republican State Senator Peter Roskam.
Most polls have shown Duckworth with a lead, although often within the margin of error, or a tie. The latest, though, shows Roskam ahead - the first such result in several months, as Rick Pearson reports in the Chicago Tribune:
The survey shows that in one of the most hard-fought races in the nation, state Sen. Peter Roskam of Wheaton holds a narrow 4 percentage-point edge over Democrat Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates in the 6th Congressional District.
Read the whole article at the link above. It should also be noted that this poll included a weekend, being taken last Saturday through Wednesday, which often overstates Democratic support.
While Duckworth is getting massive help from the DCCC and 527s to the tune of $2.5 million in attack ads against Roskam - it helps to be a Democratic challenger in Illinois with Rahm Emanuel in charge of the DCCC - she is low on cash in her own account while the Republican has over $1.4 million left to spend.
Roskam is an experienced campaigner who has represented much of the area in the state legislature, while Duckworth is a political newcomer without strong ties to the district. CQ Politics and Cook Political Report rate this race a "toss-up," while Election Projection has it a "Weak GOP hold."

IIRC, Duckworth doesn't even live in that district. Also, she is doing like Jim Webb in VA and trying to use what should now be termed as "in kind contributions to the DNC" by the Chicago and National MSM. Maybe that's why she isn't worried about her lack of cash. She feels thather "story" is enough.
Also, I heard she has been pulling a "Shuler" and trying to dodge debates. This proves that even in alleged wave years, an experienced politician will usually beat out an empty suit.

Fox is behind the curve on TN. Ford's meltdown the other day in Memphis is the talk of the state. It was the defining moment of this campaign, the equivalent of Ed Muskie blubbering in the New Hampshire snow, of McGovern saying he was "1000% behind Tom Eagleton," of Jimmy Carter telling of asking Amy what issue was important.
Ford is toast. Burnt toast.

Jim Addison ~
sweet racist pun....you're so clever. unfortunately for Tennessee, slurs like yours are the "talk of the state," not the issues at hand.

Duckworth's gonna lose-- but Bean is ahead. Illinois will be a "push" as far as Congress is concerned.
