During his lackluster campaign for the presidency in 1996 Bob Dole did manage to leave us with one memorable phrase about the Clintons: "Where's the outrage?" The legacy media was...

Murphy is like Duckworth, that sheriff in Indiana, McCaskill, Webb, Casey Jr. and Shuler in their hopes that the MSM will offer "in kind contributions" to their races to help carry them over the line. All of them are doofi (a joking and totally made up plural of doofus) and empty suits who have been dodging debates and media.

You mean Brad Ellsworth, the Sheriff opposing Rep. Hotstettler in Indiana-8. He is actually a pretty decent candidate, and has held a double-digit lead in most of the polls. However, Hotstettler is not a "modern media campaign" sort of fellow; his organization at the grassroots is as strong as any CD in the country, with volunteer committees and organizers in each of the 18 counties which are all or partly in the district. Very formidable.
Webb isn't stupid, either - he is nasty, untrustworthy, and wrong on most issues, but a pretty smart guy.
The rest you name are definitely cardboard candidates. If not for the President's low numbers all year, they wouldn't even be in the running.
