A new Mason-Dixon poll was released tonight in Virginia, and it shows Republican incumbent George Allen re-establishing a lead over Democratic candidate Jim Webb. Allen leads 47% to 43%, compared to a 43% to 43% tie in the previous poll.

If not for the huge kerfluffle over the "macaca" nonsense, Allen would be cruising to a 15-point win right now, polishing his bone fides for 2008. Post-macaca, he will win, but with a mid-single digit margin against a very weak opponent.
This race has never been in doubt as to the outcome. It merely provided some amusement to the punditry class and media talking heads on the way.
