The meltdown of the Harold Ford, Jr. campaign for US Senate continues apace. Now he is under some pressure from his own party as well. His brother Jake lost the Democratic Primary for Harold's congressional seat so, backed by Harold, Sr., he is running an independent campaign. [CORRECTION: Reader "harris" notes in the comments that it was actually a cousin who lost the primary before Jake was inserted as an independent]. Many Democrats aren't happy about the way Jr. is treating Steve Cohen, the Democratic nominee who has endorsed him for Senate, according to Volunteer Voters:
Steve Cohen didn't even go as far as I just did. He simply pointed out that Harold Ford's father, working against the Democratic nominee in the race for his son's district, is a bit unseemly.
Harold Ford, Jr. is running as a "New Kind of Democrat", "Not Your Daddy's Democrat", a "New Generation Of Leadership" -- all that jazz. But what the Ford Family is doing in Memphis, their bid to torpedo Steve Cohen, goes against all that.On this, Junior is silent. His brother and his father are working against the most respected authentic liberal in the state and Junior says nothing.

Steve Cohen simply raised the issue. He merely verbalized what everybody else already knows. Two weeks before the election Cohen decided, for one day at least, that he wasn't gonna walk around pretending like the Ford family wasn't sticking a red hot poker up his hindparts on a regular basis.
What did Harold Ford, Jr. do? He said this:
Now, it appears that State Senator Steve Cohen and Mayor Bob Corker are singing from the same Ford family attack hymnal. I know that Bob Corker is attacking my family because he has come up short on ideas and answers in this campaign. I didn't know that ... Cohen was suffering from the same problem....

Gee, Harold, is pointing out what your family is doing "attacking" them? Maybe if they hadn't been doing the things they do - like your Daddy lobbying for the banking interests your committee oversees, or backing your ne'er-do-well brother against the legitimate primary winner, people wouldn't mention them at all, eh? If people were really "attacking" your family, wouldn't they be pointing out the extensive history of corruption and criminality? Oops, did I let the cat out of the bag?
When it rains, it pours, as Tom Bevan notes at the link below. But, hey - perhaps if Jake wins, he'll find a job for you. I mean, since you aren't a real "lawyer" after flunking the bar exam, you can't do that. With no real job experience at all outside of politics, it's hard out here.
Hat-tip to Tom Bevan of RealClearPolitics for pointing to this post. Read Bevan's whole post on Ford as well for more bad news for Junior.

I don't believe Jake ran in the Democratic primary. His cousin did. And lost. So then Harold Sr., stuck in Jake as an independent (there seems to be an limitlesss number of Fords).
While the Demo nominee, a decent guy named Cohen, endorsed and worked for junior, junior's father was going around the district complaining about Cohen's religion and race. The whole thing stinks and is indeed hurting Harold Jr. Junior, of course, is accusing anyone who complains of such manipulations as unjustly accusing his poor, put-upon (crooked) family. And, of course, it's all racism. Never mind how his father is using race against Cohen. It's beyond sickening.

The whole Ford family has became a living comedy in action. The three Stooges have nothing on them. Hope the people of my neighboring state aren't stupid enough to put any of them back in office. Criminals should be in jail, not in congress. It's overrun already.

harris ~ Thanks for noticing the mistake, I've corrected it in the main post.
I wasn't going to mention Ford's family in this campaign, but he started it . . .
