The DNC topped the RNC in cash receipts in the last pre-election reporting cycle. That's the first time in a long while . . . Of course, they did it by borrowing the money, in a weird parody of Democratic candidates' hollow calls for "pay-as-you-go" budgets this year.
Greg Giroux of CQ Politics reports:
The DNC, which trailed the RNC -- and often by wide margins -- through most of the cycle, reported $10.2 million in receipts from Oct. 1 to 18 to $8.4 million for the GOP committee, according to documents filed last week with the Federal Election Commission. The documents showed that the DNC took out the $4 million loan Oct. 18, the last day of the reporting period.Even with that episodic edge, the DNC made only a nick in the big overall lead built up by the RNC. The Republican committee as of Oct. 18 had $207.9 million to $118.6 million for the DNC.
The RNC on Oct. 18 had $21.8 million available to spend, compared to $4.8 million for the DNC
Read the rest at the link above, which includes info on some of the larger contributors this cycle. Note that the DNC has $4.8 million in cash on hand, and $4 million of it is borrowed.
Personally, if I can find out the lenders, I will be sure to dump any of their stock I hold. To me, Howard Dean is a poor credit risk.

By borrowing the money to win elections, they figure they can always get the money back out of the political offices when they win....
That's as good of reason as any to raise taxes....

I just hope the GOP spends its remaining money and doesn't "save" it like Kerry did during the 2004 campaign.
And, why aren't the Republicans borrowing? They could use every penny this cycle.

Perhaps the Democrats can repay the loan by tapping the cold cash in their freezers.
