The Florida Masochist links an article from the Tampa Tribune on the controversy over whether Democratic nominee Jim Davis even voted in the 2000 election (which was pretty close in Florida, you may recall). Davis is vehemently denying it, but the newspaper's investigation can find no evidence he voted.
TFM gave Davis his "Knucklehead of the Day" award back in June:
The Knucklehead of the Day award
Today's winner is US representative and Florida gubenatorial candidate Jim Davis. He gets the award for absolutely dreadful attendance record for congressional votes. Guess where he ranks out of 435 men and women?* * * * *
"Since he began running for governor 16 months ago, Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Davis of Tampa has racked up the second-worst voting record in Congress.
Only one of the 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives has cast fewer votes than Davis: Lane Evans of Illinois, whose Parkinson's disease is forcing him to step down at the end of his term. Even Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island, who has checked into drug rehabilitation twice since Christmas, has participated in more votes than Davis."
Read the whole post at the link above.
Hmmm . . . Davis isn't doing the job he has now, and apparently didn't bother to vote in the hotly-contested 2000 election. Why does he want this job, again?
Well, it probably does pay better than any job he could hold down in the private sector with his attendance record.

The sad thing is that the House only met 99 days this session, less than any Congress since 1948.
In my post Freeloading on Your Tax Dollars I looked at the problem. Most of those abusing us, their employers, were doing so running for another office.
Remember 2004? The attendence records for members of Congress running for President was horrific. Hillary Clinton is going to get re-elected on Tuesday. She will then spend most of the first two years of her term running for President.
What would your boss do if you went out and looked for another job day in and day out while still collecting a paycheck from him?
I don't even exempt the guy who's dying. He's still getting paid and not working. Those tax dollars are yours and mine, not the government's.
