Orson Scott Card explains his decision:
I say this as a Democrat, for whom the Republican domination of government threatens many values that I hold to be important to America's role as a light among nations.
But there are no values that matter to me that will not be gravely endangered if we lose this war. And since the Democratic Party seems hellbent on losing it -- and in the most damaging possible way -- I have no choice but to advocate that my party be kept from getting its hands on the reins of national power, until it proves itself once again to be capable of recognizing our core national interests instead of its own temporary partisan advantages. To all intents and purposes, when the Democratic Party jettisoned Joseph Lieberman over the issue of his support of this war, they kicked me out as well. The party of Harry Truman and Daniel Patrick Moynihan -- the party I joined back in the 1970s -- is dead. Of suicide.

Some time . . . when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys - tell them to go in there with all they've got
and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, but I'll know about it, and I'll be happy.

When the trolls show up this guy is going to get blasted. They can't stand it when someone is right. I gave up the democratic party when Slick Willie was nominated. Like Dimmy Carter the people of his home state tried to tell you better. Deaf, dumb and blind doesn't always describe three different handicapped people, add stupid and you have todays democrat.

I strongly recommend everyone read this essay, though long, and not for political reasons. It is the clearest explanation of American strategy for the Middle East I have seen in a long time. I only wish the Administration had someone who could explain it so well. We cannot lose militarily in Iraq, and if we are only patient, success in Iraq will subvert the regimes in Iran and Syria and undermine Hezballah in Lebanon. They cannot stand -- and must not be allowed to.
The Dhimmi alternative of "phased redeployment" hands victory to the jihadists and means an eventual WMD attack in the U.S.. Whoever is president will be unable to resist the demands to retaliate, and the destruction will be far greater than the small losses we are now suffering in Iraq.
