As more and more races thought leaning Democratic tighten up across the country, is the promised "blue wave" for Tuesday turning out to be an ebbing tide?
Even the vaunted "generic poll" advantage Democrats have enjoyed - the poll question is "Which would you prefer to control Congress: Democrats who care about children and animals, or evil, corrupt, Republican child molesters?" - throughout the campaign may be evaporating, according to the Washington Post (a/k/a "Jim Webb Campaign HQ"). NRO's Jim Geraghty has the story:
The ABC Washington Post poll generic ballot question, two weeks ago:. . . . . . . Dem . . . Rep
. . . . . . . cand. . . . cand.
10/22/06 LV 55 41
The ABC Washington Post poll, today:. . . . . . . Dem . . . Rep
. . . . . . . cand. . . . cand.11/4/06 LV 51 45
Are you kidding me? From 14 points to 6 points in two weeks among likely voters?
Abbreviated, read the entire post and poll results at the link above.
Jim also notes the 1994 WaPo "generic poll" was 47-42 in favor of Democrats a week before the election, and still favored them 48-44 the day before. We all know how that one turned out.
The tide is turning - red.
