Michigan Senate/Governor - Even Clinton can't excite 'em

When Democrats need to stir up their base, they bring in Bill Clinton. He is their rock star and top fundraiser. So when he visited Detroit for Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, the Detroit Free Press delivered the standard puff piece from Kathleen Gray:

When former President Bill Clinton took the stage Saturday morning at Wayne State University and began to talk about the election, the rowdy crowd of about 500 people suddenly became silent and attentive.

"It's like this everywhere," Clinton said, recalling a recent visit to Iowa, one of 29 states where he has campaigned for Democrats. "It was real quiet. Everywhere I go, people know there is something fundamentally wrong."

Read the whole thing at the link above. Sometimes, it's not what you say that counts; it's what you don't say. As RedState's Jeff Emanuel notes, the "500" number may have been generous, but the venue holds at least 2000. Is that the best they can turn out for Clinton in Detroit?

Heck, I live in a rural county with a small town "county seat," and I guarantee we would turn out a bigger crowd than that. Read all of Jeff's observations at the preceding link. This doesn't seem to show much enthusiasm for either Stabenow or Granholm, if folks won't come out for them even with a former President there.

My small county seat would ... (Below threshold)
Scrapiron:

My small county seat would turn out more than that for a mule race and there aren't any mule races. We get more than that for the annual county firemans competition. He** almost that many firemen and former firemen. Some places draw a thousand or more for a bingo game. Slick Willie has been figured out for the criminal and liar he is, and always was.
