Is Corker Turning His Back on Conservatives That Elected Him?

That is what Erick Erickson thinks is happening. This is not a good start.

With all due respect, I'm constantly surprised that Conservatives are surprised when elected officials stabbed them in the back.

It's obvious Republicans learned nothing this last round, but have Conservatives not learned anything either?

Until we use our constitutional right to completely remove the government and start all over I feel we're never going to get anywhere.

My two cents...

There has been a correction... (Below threshold)

There has been a correction issued at Redstate on this story. At least they posted the correction as soon as the proper information was provided.

This would certainly mean that Corker did not turn his back on those who voted for him.

Well, Corker certainly needed the conservative votes he got, but were they going to vote for Ford? He wasn't the "conservative" in the GOP primary, Ed Bryant was. Corker ran as a more moderate-conservative in the grand tradition of Tennessee Republican Senators like Howard Baker, Fred Thompson, and Lamar Alexander. Tennessee hasn't elected a "movement conservative" Senator in the last 40 years or so.

Besides, what is Corker's big sin? He joined a group? SO FREAKING WHAT? The guy could go on to a 100% ACU voting record for all we know right now. Erick is too worked up about this. He needs a yoga class or something.

Michael:

I agree with Jim. I think it's really premature to pass judgment on Senator-elect Corker before he's even taken a single vote. The Republican Main Street Partnership has a diverse membership, and not every member is a Lincoln Chafee or an Olympia Snowe. Frankly, I respect the organization and the message it sends, because the Republican Party has to attract more than just the far right to win elections. I'd prefer the centrists who are part of the organization settle on the GOP side of the fence, anyways. Let's be fair to Mr. Corker and wait until he's established a reputation in the Senate before we judge him.
