The Sincerest Form of Flattery?

Sean Hackbarth points to some questionable behavior by Wisconsin Congressman Steve Kagan and notes how closely his website resembles a Republican congressman's, to the point that Kagen's site suggests constituents contact the Nebraska Republican Fortenberry's office for flag requests and internship opportunities.

GeminiChuck:

Well, why not? Democrats copy conservative ideals long enough to get elected. They have no principles - will do whatever it takes to win.

Kagan need not get too comfortable. The last rodent to win that Republican seat, Jay Johnson, lasted a single term.

I wouldn't worry about the congressman, but his staff is a danger to the country. Anyone that supid shouldn't be allowed out alone.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but isn't it more likely that Congressman Hackbarth hired the same webpage developer and THAT person just did a sloppy job?

I know if I were doing that work, I'd leverage other webpages I've done. I do hope I'd do a better job with my "search and replace Congressman's name" step, though.

It must be a template of some sort. If you look at the bottom of the page, there are fake addresses and phone nummbers as if someone didn't put in the info. In fact, the page has been changed to reflect the correct Congressman's name now.

Maybe they both copied from Ron Lewis's homework:

or maybe all three of them cribed off of Tom Feeney:

If you look at the source code for the webpage, you will notice that the meta tag for author references "John Richards" for all of these except Fenney. Two of them have him listed as "HIR Web Systems" while Kagan's has him listed as "CAO Technology Infrastructure Solutions : Web Systems Branch".

So these were all developed by the same guy using the same tool. Since all programmers are thieves (myself included), he most likely stole the template (either from himself or someone else) and then just reused it when the Congressmen's lackies called the IT department and said "We need a website, STAT!"
