2008 Colorado Senate Race

Wayne Allard has announced that he will not run for re-election in 2008. The Democratic nominee will in all probability be Congressman Udall. The Republican field may be crowded unless a heavyweight such as former Governor Bill Owens joins the field. This is going to be an extremely difficult seat for the GOP to hold, given recent history in this state.

Not sure where I read this but there is talk
that the GOP maybe talking with John Elway to run
for the senate seat.

Elway is reportedly interested, and the GOP should court him seriously. Bill Owens' stock is substantially downgraded after his last years in office.

It would be tough for Colorado voters to vote AGAINST John Elway.

The recent history of Colorado Senate seats shows Allard to be in the mainstream: Senators from that state have tended to self-limit their service for one reason or another. His announcement was anticlimactic, as political observers had noted some time ago that he had not been raising money in the usual quantities lately.
