2008 Massachusettts Senate Race

Following up on the story below, Republicans believe that they have a chance of winning a United States Senate seat in Massachusetts of all places. John Kerry, who has decided against running for President, will seek a 5th term. A recent SurveyUSA poll shows the former Democratic Presidential nominee with an upside down 40%-53% approval rating.

However, Republicans have assembled a rather impressive shortlist of candidates to send him into early retirement. It includes State Senator Scott Brown, Harvard Pilgrim CEO Charles Baker, real estate mogul and powerful GOP fund-raiser Chris Egan, state Sen. Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester), U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan, former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey and President Bush's former chief of staff, Andy Card.

However, as Tom Kean, Jr. (A Quinnipiac Poll just relased shows Democratic Senator Robert Menendez with a 39%-36% approval rating - I mean, come on) and Michael Steele can attest to, it does not matter how strong the GOP candidate and weak the Democratic candidate if 1. the state has a Democratic lean (and what state has a more Democratic lean that the Bay State?) and 2. Iraq continues to be a drag on GOP candidates.

Oh, this will be hilarious.... (Below threshold)
not the senator:

Oh, this will be hilarious. You call this a strong field? The Lt. Gov. who was just crushed by a political unknown? An airhead State Senator(Brown, we've never even heard of the other one Tarr. Google him, see how much coverage he's ever gotten)? An ex-State Rep. best known for being COS for Dubya (and that will carry well in MA)? And a money guy?

C'mon, get a grip, will ya? This was an article by Dave Wedge of the Herald who held out hope that Healey was actually going to win right up until election day. He and Crittenden are GOP house hacks at the Herald with pretensions of some day moving up to the Union Leader. Their political insight in Massachusetts is negligible.

Charles_in_Texas:

The Socialist Republic of Massachusetts loves its Communist Senators and queers like Congressman Barney Frank. They would support Chavez from Venzuela (sp.) if he was an American and running for Senator.

Unfortunately, only about 20% of the citizens of Massachusetts are economically literate. The humongous Taxing Democratic Idiot Liberals are even driving their own supporters out of state.

They will lose 1 or 2 Congressional seats in 2010, perhaps even 3. High taxes are the main reason! They are just so stupid.

CTindy:

this poll must be off because although their aren't many of them, 40% of the conservatives in massachusetts approve of the job Ted Kennedy is doing as a senator.
