As I recall, Edwards had a below average attendance in the first four years of his one term in the Senate, but was a virtual stranger to the institution during the last two as he ran for the 2004 nomination. His "experience" in DC is effectively less than Obama's.
As Lorie notes, the only thing he's done since is keep running, so he must have been speaking of his lack of experience in campaigning, not any qualification by experience. In any case, Edwards would do best to avoid drawing attention to the question of experience, since he has less of it than any candidate mentioned so far in either party.
Strange that the top three Democratic contenders have a sum total of 16 years in the Senate between them (as of now), while their candidates with more experience attract little notice. The more is known about them, it seems, the less is liked . . .
