Rudi is my choice..at this ... (Below threshold)1. Posted by nogo postal | February 16, 2007 6:16 PM | Score: 1 (1 votes cast)
Rudi is my choice..at this time..He stepped up in our darkest hour..but can he survive..
His personal Life..divorces/affairs/
His position on "choice"
His position on homosexuals..
His position on gun control..
I believe Rudi has demonstrated he has the courage to lead our nation..however..remember back in High School biology..that paper litmus test?
I fear too many voices are still caught up in that..
The shrill voices will never allow him to be the Republican choice againt the Democratic Party..
...too bad courage in the face of adversity is treated this way..

McCain's numbers are about to take an even greater fall. He is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for one of the countries leading Creationist organizations. This comes at time where the Texas legislator number 2 Republican is getting bashed in the press for his "fixed earth" convictions.
If it gets any amount of press that McCain is hanging around these types of extremist, watch his numbers fall by 5 percent. If it makes Drudge, it will fall by an even greater amount.
Why is it, that the Republicans are choosing to go down this anti-science path as a part of the party platform?

As a pro-life, anti-gay marriage, gun-toting conservative, Rudy is at the present time my first choice. Neither have I talked to any conservative who rejects Rudy as a candidate.
Now, I don't doubt the "single issue voters" would, but I don't typically hang out with those folks. Ramesh Ponuru argues that their desertion in the general election would spell trouble for Rudy. Maybe. But if the opponent is Hillary, maybe not.
Pro-life issues and positions have been good for Republican results in general, as Ponuru points out. However, having spent the better part of the last two years researching, writing, and promoting his book on the subject (Party of Death), he is possibly too emotionally invested in the topic to render objective political judgments.
I'm "leaning Rudy" at this point, not "committed Rudy," BUT: show me someone better qualified, with a better chance to win.

What Ramesh seems to miss is that Rudy isn't running as a pro-abortion, pro-gun control Republican. He's being honest about his personal views on those issues (pro-choice, supports gun control in large cities), but he's basically saying that, as president, he will be functionally or operationally pro-life and pro-2nd Amdt. Rudy has come out against any new federal gun laws. As such, it doesn't matter what he'd do as a mayor or a governor, as long as he feels the federal government shouldn't pass any new gun laws, he's functionally pro-2nd Amdt.
On abortion, Rudy supports the partial birth abortion ban, parental notification, and conservative judges who will uphold abortion laws passed at the state level. Again, who cares what he would do as a mayor or a governor or a legislator? As president, these positions make him functionally pro-life.
So in the general, voters would have the functionally pro-life, functionally pro-2nd Amdt Rudy to choose from, and the pro-abortion, pro-gun control Hillary. The choice doesn't get much clearer than that.

The GOP is OVERestimating Guiliani's appeal to voters. There are a huge number of Conservatives still in existence in the U.S. and we don't vote Democrat. Guiliani is a likeable PERSON but as a President, there's still a lot of second looks being made and the popularity numbers are more from certain segments outside the Conservative voters.
If it's Hillary and Guiliani, guess who'll take the White House. The GOP ignores the still Silent Majority to it's peril. Guiliani would make a good Cabinet appointment.
