Political gadfly and antiwar Republican Senator Chuck Hagel may have reached the limits of endurance even for his "safe" seat, as Nebraska's Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning is mulling a primary challenge. Gary Gross of Let Freedom Ring reports on the story from The Hill:
Based on this report in the Hill Magazine, it's sounding like Chuck Hagel is heading for a collapse:
Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning (R) entered the state's 2008 Senate race as a potential replacement for Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) if the latter were to retire. But now Bruning says he might try to unseat the Iraq war critic in a primary.
He cited Hagel's recent vote for a troop withdrawal deadline in Iraq and his suggestions that President Bush could be impeached. Bruning said yesterday that he has been given sufficient reason to consider running for the seat even if the two-term senator aims for a third term."Senator Hagel voted with the Democratic leadership against President Bush on the most important issue facing our country," Bruning said, adding, "These are drastic and dramatic shifts away from the Republican Party, our president, and the people of Nebraska."
THANK YOU, Mr. Bruning!!! I couldn't agree more!!! It's time that Mr. Hagel paid the price for being so badly wrong on the most important issue of our generation. It's totally unacceptable for him to repeatedly tout his defeatist policies. I can't think of a single accomplishment that Hagel has contributed to the Republican Party in his time as senator.
Read the whole post at the link above. Gary also notes that Hagel only has $230,000 in his campaign account, which is extremely low for a Senator only eighteen months from reelection, even in a "safe" seat. Hagel may be contemplating retirement, which would be greeted with approval by most Republicans, or he may still entertain fantasies of running for President.
Anything [legal] that gets him out of the Senate is all right by me.

Hagel will murderize him. He's a true conservative and even pro-war voters are disgusted at Bush's gross incompetence. That's Hagel's "cover", if he ever needs it, but he won't. Check out Hagel's voting record: ACA 99 (or is it 98?)
I would guess Bruning is just applying for the Establishment's attention regarding national job prospects. Nothing wrong with that. I expect he'll invest minimally in his own campaign. It's cheap to run in Nebraska. Win-win.

In today's Republican Party, 98 or 99% ACA rating is irrelevant - LOYALTY TO BUSH IS ALL THAT COUNTS!!!

Hagel is not winning friends with his stances, especially on Iraq. and sad to say it, but whenever a republican is held up in the MSM as a positive example, that generates a LOT of distrust with conservatives.
that being said... brian and barry.obviously neither of you are active republicans, so how in the hell could you imagine to speak for what matters to republicans? and contrary to your opinions, we can, indeed, look at the evidence, listen to the arguments, and make our own decisions. how would you feel if i called you just another Pelosi tool? would there be any truth to that?
do you even know what is philosophically important to most republicans? hell, do you know what the philosophies of the democratic party are?
or are you just so wrapped up in your ideological and personal bigotries that all you can do is attempt to demean, insult, and ridicule those you disagree with or that may agree with pres. bush?
just asking.

The antique MSM helped the dhimmi's eat one of their own (Imus) over a few words. Do you really think they won't help anyone get rid of Hagel and his senority. They will and i'll cheer as another RINO bites the dirt. There aren't many left and the republican party can get back to the business of saving the country from total destruction by the dumb a** democrats. People are becoming really scared of the current pack of democrat fools. You can hear it anywhere a bunch of democrats gather. Not a viable 'American' in the current crop. Some were leaning to 'the Silky Pony' but he shot that forever. Now they see him for the a** he is. Who will shoot themselves in the foot next? Shrillary 'the weasel' already has no chance unless hell freezes over or Slick disappears/dies. Who will float to the top of the septic tank?

Hagel's criticism of Bush is not his only problem with Nebraska voters. His open-borders, "amnesty lite" immigration policies are wildly at odds with the wishes of most Nebraskans. Any credible Republican candidate will beat him in a primary. Whether Bruning is that candidate remains to be seen. Hagel failed to learn the lessons of Tom Dashle's defeat. At the end of the day, your consituent's wishes matter.

Ghee-what does that say about your law school?
Oh and hell at least that would make him smarter than Hagel.
Hagel sets the baseline on intellect for Senators.
Essentially what you are saying is -the race would be between Dumb and Dumber -I'm confident Hagel would be the later.

Chuck Hagel stated in a TV interview that he's thinking of running for President as a third party canditate and he mentioned Mike Bloomberg New York City mayor as a running mate, Mike Bloomberg????? I live in NJ and outside of the NYC area nobody's heard of Mike Bloomberg. Bloomberg happens to be a billionaire and a very liberal republican. Hagel stated he's very unhappy with the republican party,he said it's not the party of Reagan and Goldwater--yeah right so this republican party misfit selects a liberal as a running mate?????--- I smell a rat here---the real plan as I see it is to use Bloomberg's money and Hagel's name recognition and anti-war stance to insure the democratic party's victory in the 08 election, obviously the plan is to take away votes from the republican nominee, whoever that may be.-----I believe some powerful democratic operatives are in back of this "Ross Perot" type third party plan involving Hagel and Bloomberg. Comments??
