Senator Hillary Clinton enjoys a double digit lead over the field in the latest national poll of Democratic primary voters, according to Rasmussen Reports:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows Clinton at 35%, Senator Barack Obama at 25%, and former Senator John Edwards at 18%. That's the highest level of support we've ever measured for Edwards. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is solidly atop the second tier of candidates with 5% support.
Obama continues to hold a slight lead among male voters while Clinton has a huge advantage among women. In General Election match-ups, Clinton is now essentially even with Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani. She leads all other Republicans including Fred Thompson, John McCain, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Senator Sam Brownback, Senator Chuck Hagel, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Read the whole story at the above link. Hillary's stable support in the 32-35% range is very strong in a multi-candidate field. It leaves the others vying to take the role of her challenger, which means they have to first make the case against one another. As I opined much earlier, it suits her strategy to keep Obama and Edwards in the race and viable as long as she can maintain her lead. Between them, they tie up millions of donor dollars and dozens of key campaign workers and consultants who might otherwise be available to another candidate, making it ever less likely someone else - Gore being the main threat - could jump into the race late and put together an effective campaign apparatus.
As far as Bill Richardson being "solidly atop the second tier," I have to wonder just how solidly a candidate with 5% support is atop anything.

What is really scary is that if, and I say if, she does win the White House, think about how she will use the Patriot Act to spy on her so called foes. And all the screaming done by the right wingers will be answered by "Bush did it".
Hell of a mess our country is in and will be in if she is elected. And of all the people running, only one has foreign affairs experience, and it's not her, or Rudi either. Scary, isn't it?

Well, my friends, if you read Free Republic today, the purists there have already kicked Rudy and all the RINO's out of the Party. So , the Hildabeast will win. According to the purists, abortion is the only issue that should drive voters. The war against Islamofascists , ah heck, we have to kick out Pubs from the Party before we can defend ourselves. Yep, Rudy is gone now. That leaves who? Well, none of those left can beat the Hil. Ah, the purists. They don't want to win; they want a pure party and think the Prez will be 24/7 on just getting rid of abortion. The heck with Iran. The heck with the Red Chinese. The heck with illegal immigration. Just kick out the only pol who might beat Hil and all will be right with the world. Dems and Islamos are laughing their heads off. The Stupid Party strikes again.

Rudy isn't the answer. Rudy is a mess. He is a corrupt, angry, ego driven, mess.
Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Thompson, Newt ... all are good guys who could win. One of them will win.

Hey, 5% support for a guy most people have never had the opportunity to hear about is pretty darn good!
I still think that if Al Gore came out, the campaign workers and donor dollars would follow :)
As for Dickie's comment, the best Republican candidate by far is Ron Paul. As someone who didn't vote for the Iraq War, he's the only Republican who can win against a Democrat. The rest don't stand a chance. Huckabee, McCain and Guiliani have proven they don't have a clue about foreign policy with their latest "we never upset anyone with our Middle Eastern foreign policy and Ron Paul should be banned from the debates for saying so" spiel; it simply shows they're not up to the job. None of them are "good guys", either.
Ron Paul vs. Hillary 2008!
