The latest poll from the Wall Street Journal and NBC "News" has been released. The full report is HERE (in -,pdf format).
Among the Democrats, Hillary Clinton maintains her lead, mirroring the results of other recent polls, with 39% of likely Democrats supporting her to 25% for her nearest challenger, Barack Obama. John Edwards remains in third with 15%, slipping back after gaining 20% support in the last WSJ/NBC survey. The rest are divided among the minor candidates while 5% remain undecided.
On the GOP side, Giuliani seems to have stopped the decline in his support which began after a shaky performance in the first debate with his strong showing since. He commands 29% of likely Republican voters, followed by the all-but-formally-announced Fred Thompson with 20%. Mitt Romney and John McCain are tied for third with 14%.
Whether Thompson can hold or improve his numbers once he begins campaigning in earnest is the "$64,000 Question" of the GOP race. The results have to be disheartening for McCain, whose support continues to erode. If he can't report surprising fundraising numbers for the 2nd quarter (FEC reports due in July), he won't be able to continue. At the rate his campaign is bringing negativity into the race, his departure should be welcomed.
Thanks to Dean Barnett of Hugh Hewitt.com for pointing to this poll.

I'm still wondering why Hillary moved to NY to become Senator there - although I've got a good guess.... Another thing, why has the press never pressed her about all her baggage? Just curious.
