Rudy Giuliani says judges who do not strictly construe the Constitution "imperil the American democracy" by legislating from the bench. Michael R. Blood reports for the AP:
Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday that judges who are not so-called "strict constructionists" threaten American democracy.
Giuliani, answering a question at a news conference about his support for abortion rights, veered into a broad criticism of the federal judiciary. He repeated his pledge to appoint strict constructionists to the federal bench."What 'strict constructionist' means is that a judge will interpret the Constitution in accordance with what someone else meant when they wrote those words and not try to legislate," the former New York mayor said. "If you are not a strict constructionist, I believe you imperil the American democracy because you take the role of a legislator."

More than any other Republican contender, Giuliani needs to emphasize his dedication to conservative principles of jurisprudence because of his history of supporting abortion rights. Stark statements like this one go a long way towards accomplishing that goal.

What I like here is first, Rudy has a 12 point platform. He should continue to remind voters of them. Second, he is so right on not ,not appointing liberal loose constructionist jurists. On any list of American priorities, abortion( which is an important moral consideration to be sure) doesn't rank in most polls in the top 10 worries. Now, perhaps it should. But, reality is, it is not. Rudy has many good points as a leader. He cannot change any abortion laws. He says he will appoint strict constructionist jurists. That is so much better than any Dem candidate, that for me, if he is the nominee, I will gladly support him. Dennis Prager today is dealing with Rudy and his platform. Perhaps those who get Dennis on the radio, should tune in and give Rudy another listen.

Glenn Koons,
I checked out Rudy's 12 points. The guy's a neoconservative-influenced one-worlder, from calling the US "America" (better than Canamex, true, but only just) and a "democracy" (he's lawyer, words mean things), to insisting on expanding the GWOT. He can't even resist calling for the need to push Fast Track trade authority. US Constitution says No, Willie, George and Rudy say Yes...bad company.
Add in his pro-abortion stance (a LOSER unless his nomination opponent is Dick Cheney, and trumped by Hil in the general anyway) and his putting his NYC anti-terrorism HQ in the recently targetted WTC, his sponsorship of mobbed-up crony Kerik for Terror Czar (apt), and his claim of never hearing about the concept of "blowback" (even though he sat on the 9/11 Commision where the theory was specifically discussed)...and he's always NineElevening everthing. That's Ghouliani.
And the "He can beat Hillary" thing's a canard. He ducked her in the senate race claiming "cancer". That was 3 lives ago.
