Former Senator John Edwards is taking staff out of Nevada to focus on the other early states, according to Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press:
Presidential hopeful John Edwards is moving staff out of Nevada to focus on other early voting states as he deals with limited resources and uncertainty about the Western state's prominence in deciding the Democratic nomination.
The Edwards campaign said Wednesday that the Nevada staffers were being relocated to New Hampshire, South Carolina and in particular Iowa, where he is hoping a victory will propel him to the nomination. The campaign would not disclose how many staffers were being moved and neither would Edwards in a telephone interview.
The whole story is at the above link. Edwards hasn't made any progress in Nevada, so moving around staff to states where he has a better chance is logical. However, neither he nor the campaign will say how many staffers are being transferred or if any are just being laid off. Near the end of the article, though, it is mentioned that his field director is taking a job with the DSCC. Sounds like he's just bugging out due to a shortage of money.
It's tough enough raising campaign money on a good day, but a complete lack of progress can't help. Edwards' best state is Iowa, where he has been organizing for nearly five years, but recent polls show the gap closing (and one has Hillary leading him there now). Hillary's first paid ads in the state start this weekend.
It was a candidacy born of pure ego from the start, of course. Edwards has no relevant experience, was a lousy candidate for VP under Kerry (according to Shrum), is such a wimp he has to trot out his cancer-sufferer wife to defend his campaign, and has an absolute tin ear for public opinion.
Great hair apparently only gets you so far these days.
