Virginia Senate: Cantor bandwagon?

With the retirement of Virginia Senator John Warner, the jockeying has already begun for the Republican nomination to replace him. Former Governor Jim Gilmore and Rep. Tom Davis are expected to compete, but another name was proposed by Patrick Ruffini at Townhall.com:

Conventional wisdom has Eric Cantor rising through the ranks in the House. But he's also the best hope for Virginia Republicans to hold John Warner's Senate seat.

Tom Davis could best serve the Republican Party by staying where he is, something he can well appreciate as a former NRCC Chairman. He's the right fit for where Fairfax County is right now. If he goes, so does his district.

As for Jim Gilmore, we need look no further than his recent 11th place publicity stunt to evaluate his skill as a candidate.

Read the whole post at the above link. Yesterday, Power Line's Scott Johnson jumped on board:

I second Patrick Ruffini's nomination of House chief deputy minority whip Eric Cantor (whom I wrote about briefly here) as the Republican candidate for John Warner's Senate seat.

Follow the link to access his earlier post.

Cantor indeed would represent the conservative mainstream of the Republican Party better than either Gilmore or Davis, and he trumps both in presentation as well. His candidacy could make the race more interesting, too, which might help keep former Democratic Governor Mark Warner out. Warner reportedly would prefer a Vice-Presidential slot with Hillary or to run again for Governor in 2009, anyway, although he would be the immediate favorite to replace Sen. Warner (no relation) if he chose to run.

Without Mark Warner, there is no clear Democratic candidate for the seat. I highly recommend Rep. Jim Moran run, so the rest of Virginia can express their opinion of him.

Sounds great to me! I can't stand Gilmore, and think he's a terrible campaigner (at least if his pathetic excuse for a Presidential campaign is any indication, I wanted to shoot myself every time he spoke at the debates). While I don't have anything against Davis, he's good where he is, and we can do better then him statewide.

Cantor seems to be the perfect choice.

I always defend Woody Allen! Under budget and on time.

Do you want a Cantor story? (OK!) It revolves around George Allen's "sudden" middle-aged "discovery", during a ham dinner, no less, of his Jewishness.
Or that's the version that Allen told to explain the public sumblimation of his heritage inside a confederate battle flag when asked by a reporter at the Senate debate.
Anyway, having looked like the stereotypical self-loathing Jew to a statewide audience and losing the debate to Webb, what does Allen do?
He calls on Eric Cantor and Norm Coleman to publicly declare the Webb campaign anti-semitic. Which they do. Shame-less.

Remember: it was a newspaper story. Webb didn't say a thing. And it was the "macaca" phrase known to Sephardic Jews that clicked in a smart reporter's head.

Another anecdote: Cantor discovered to have a sandwich named after him in Jack Abramoff's deli.

Interesting political revisionism there, Bryan. It wasn't George Allen who ran a vicious anti-Semitic primary campaign against his Democrat opponent as Psycho Webb did. It wasn't George Allen's supporters who unearthed his Jewish heritage as Adolf Webb did.

Face it, Webb ran a campaign that Hitler (and Cynthia McKinney) himself would be proud of. The virulent anti-Semitism of the far-left isn't even disguised anymore. I'd expect the same vicious NaziDemocrat hate against Cantor if he runs.

Here's an interesting illustrated article (from an Allen partisan) concerning the "anti-semitic" tactics used against Harris whereof you speak. Pretty interesting.

And yet 87% of Jews voted for the NaziDemocrat party in the 2006 elections, Exposer, and presumably for Adolf Webb too. Oh, and by the way? You've just permanently lost all rights to complain every time some left wing fruit loop compares Bush to Hitler.

And 90% of Blacks vote for the slave party. Doesn't change the fact that both groups are like the chickens voting for Colonel Sanders. Webb is a vicious, violent, anti-Semite, as are his flunkies, and he's also a racist, too. Remember his ride through Watts pointing guns at Black people "for kicks"? No, I didn't think so. And let's not get into his fetish for writing about pedophilia. They don't come much more bottom of the barrel than Adolf Webb.

Bob:

Evidence? You can't just toss around a bunch of epithets like that without backing them up. Show me an well sourced example of viciousness, violence and anti-Semetism from Webb. I'm afraid you're going to have to do better than a few pages from a book he wrote and something he did 23 years ago. Need I remind you that 23 years ago, one President Bush was still an obnoxious drunk?

And you still haven't explained why Jews vote 90-10 Democratic. Are you saying that they've duped into voting for a party that overtly hates them? Or could it possibly be that Jews tend to be urban dwelling social liberals?
