Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's campaign headquarters was burglarized over the weekend. Several laptop computers and a TV were stolen in what appears to be a routine burglary, Glen Johnson reports for the Associated Press:
The incident is the third of its kind recently involving a presidential contender.Last month a man was arrested and charged with breaking into a Hartford, Conn., office belonging to Sen. Chris Dodd, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. The accused lived in a city shelter and had a lengthy arrest record, and a city police official said that crime likely was prompted to support a drug habit.
In July, the Davenport, Iowa, campaign headquarters for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was burglarized. Two laptop computers and campaign literature were reported stolen.
Read the whole story at the above link. None of these incidents appear politically motivated, and no sensitive campaign material was accessed in any of them (as far as we know). Nonetheless, the reporter felt it necessary to include:
A burglary at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate building in Washington on June 17, 1972, triggered a coverup that ultimately led to the resignation of President Nixon.
Wow, really? We had totally forgotten about that . . . [/rolleyes] . . .
