As a declared candidate, former Senator John Edwards would never be chosen to deliver the "Democratic response" to the President's scheduled speech to the nation on Iraq tonight, so he struck upon a unique idea, reports Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press:
In the clamor of Democrats assailing President Bush on Iraq, presidential candidate John Edwards has found a way to be heard after Bush addresses the nation Thursday night: He's buying time for a rebuttal.
Brilliant! But . . . isn't that going to cost him a lot of money he can hardly spare? He's already had to pull staff out of Nevada . . . but read on:
Edwards has bought two minutes of air time on MSNBC, scheduled to air after Bush's 15-minute televised speech from the White House at 9 p.m. EDT.
MSNBC? Well, at least it will be cheaper than, say, a full-page ad in The New York Times . . . Edwards is undoubtedly counting on other news organizations to cover his statement, gaining a far greater audience for free than the one for which he is paying.
UPDATE: Here is Edwards' rebuttal, in which he calls for either withdrawal on a strict timetable or a cut-off of funds:

Since Edwards is a member in good standing of the pro-war Council On Foreign Relations (along with Gen Petraeus AND Hillary Clinton) I will be interested to see how he expects to make an impact in 2 minutes while toeing the Pratt House line.
Will he instead attempt an audacious establishment-backed co-option of the MoveOn/anti-war movement and pretend a Clean Break? Maybe dressed as a Mohawk to a tea party? Aimed at primary voters in other words?
If it's just about niggling with the chimp, the Dems will know to write him off now.

I wonder how many haircuts he's going to have to give up for the air time?

Can't you just see Edwards with the sheen in his hair flying as he surrenders to Osama? Can you , in fact, imagine any of these Dems being a Commander in Chief that would garner respect from our miitary, cred and fear and awe from international leaders, and belief from Iran, Syria, Russia and the Chi-Coms plus N. Korea. They would all be licking their chops to get what they could from this socialist pacifist and the rest of the Quisling wannabes.

On-topic: Wrap Edwards in newspaper. Put him out for the trashman. Maybe a cancer book is the plan; pull out "due to" wife's health, write about it together, do Oprah. "Strength, faith, courage". Come back after wife kicks the bucket. 4 yrs? 8? He's still "young". That makes sense. The commercial doesn't.

I was a little nervous there for a minute with Bush vs Botox Man but I have to admit 08 is burning precious stomach acid. Billary's attempt at manhood is giving me nightmares and Johnnie boy...no, no words come to mind but it is somewhere in there between Osama's new beard and that purple dinosaur Barney. I'm starting to have this "grandparental" political attraction to Fred as I find myself sleeping in the fetal position.

Well, I read that Olbermann all but offered Edwards free air time without any challenging questions. Looks like the Silky Pony was fleeced by MSNBC of some money when he could have had face time and no questions for free.
