Tommy, that is. Remember him? - former Wisconsin Governor, Secretary of HHS, and recent candidate for the nomination himself. While he is the first of the candidates to endorse anyone, he never gained any traction for his own bid, either in support in the polls or in fundraising, so it is unlikely to carry much weight. Bruce Smith reports for the AP:
Tommy Thompson endorsed his one-time GOP presidential rival Rudy Giuliani on Friday, saying the former New York mayor can unite the nation -- and beat Hillary Rodham Clinton. "I want a candidate who can lead and bring America together," Thompson said with Giuliani by his side in this early voting state."I want a candidate that's going to be able to stand up and be able to win the Republican primary and take on Hillary Clinton and win," added Thompson, the first former 2008 Republican candidate to make an endorsement.
Read the full story at the link above. While I suppose it's better to win Thompson's endorsement than to have out there endorsing a rival, it certainly won't win many votes. The Giuliani campaign made a huge tactical mistake by putting out word they would receive a "major" endorsement in Charleston. Thompson was already scheduled to be there to dedicate an new MUSC hospital building authorized while he was SecHHS, but no one noticed because his endorsement could hardly be considered "major."
There IS one "major" figure in South Carolina politics who hasn't yet endorsed a candidate, though: Governor Mark Sanford. So naturally the rumors began flying around that Sanford was the "mystery endorser," which created some buzz - only to fall flat on the actual news.
It was like being told you were going to see John, Paul, George, and Ringo, and finding out it was really Glynnis John, Ron Paul, Phyllis George, and Ringo.

Of course, it might help Rudy in Wisc. which is a border state swinging blue, purple , red every other election. Recommendations, endorsements rarely help for the average voter unless it is such a star in the atmosphere that one is amazed. With the cynicism of the public about anything Congressional et al, one is reminded how little our public is aware of the political nature of this nation and how important this next election is to our collective future.

The Ghoul campaign must ride herd on its Ghoul coverage lest Kerik, marriage anullments, incest, vivesection, or being a flaming liberal gun-grabber figure in polite discourse.
So what Team Ghoul must do for months is, at night, rush out and buy a crapload of scented candles, musky incense and Airwick plug-in novelties. And before you've finished your morning Joe, beginning solicting your "considered opinion" on This One!...Now, THIS one!...wait, wait! This one has a fan! Huh?Huh?
Like that til election day.
No rest for the wicked.
