The latest tracking poll from Rasmussen Reports shows the Republican nomination contest tighter than ever, with only an 11% spread from first place to fifth:
Rudy Giuliani is now supported by 21% while Fred Thompson is the top choice for 19%. Seventeen percent (17%) are undecided while John McCain moves into third place among the candidates with at 14% of the vote. Mitt Romney's support is back down to 12%, Mike Huckabee reaches double digits for the first time at 10%, and Ron Paul earns the vote from 3%. (see recent daily numbers). The more you look at the numbers, the more you realize how wide open the race has become.
Read the whole story and access the data at the link above. Neither of the leaders, Giuliani or Thompson, seem to be making any headway, and Romney suffers a similar case of doldrums. The big news, if confirmed by subsequent polling, is McCain moving back up into contention, and Huckabee cracking the double-digit barrier. Given that the fourth- and fifth-place candidates are running strongly in Iowa, it isn't difficult to envision a scenario under which any of them could win the nomination.

I like Ras. But, the new Fox Poll tonight has Rudy way out front as does RCP. Perhaps Ras. is polling too many frustrated Pubs in one small burg. Nationally, most polls don't have this race as close. And John in 3rd??? Please. I don't buy it. Not yet . I do buy that the Huck is moving but only for the VP choice is Mitt or Rudy win the nomination. Or maybe my choice, Rudy-Fred will still come about. Though, I must admit, the Huck is attractive since he is far younger than the tired ole Fred.

Will Ron Paul leap-frog McCain, Huckabee, or both?
McCain and Huckabee are on the wrong side of the immigration issue and Big Business has its "safe bets" elsewhere.
Plus McC and Huckabee are sucking hind tit in the financials.
Huckabee's trump card (the FAIR Tax) has been relegated, where? I don't know. Traded for Veepstakes, I suppose.
The action is the 3 headed neocon vs Paul.

I'm still not sure where Rudi gets all his MSM hype...(oh yes I do)
Because of money spent and family it will be hard for anyone but Mitt in Iowa and NH..
I look for Huck to finish 2nd or third in both.
In SC may well be the State. Rudi has to take SC or he is done.
I still believe Huck is the one candidate Republicans and Independents can vote for without holding their nose.
No matter who the Dems nominate(especially Clinton)there will be nose holding.
If Clinton is the nominee and Huck is the nominee, I would vote for Huck.
Huck is be far the best orator and the most consistent..
oops coffee is ready..gotta go

These polls are directly reflecting the the views of the loonies who voted for george bush when his name was the only one on the ballot. he ran unimposed in the 04' republican primaries which had the lowest turn out in history (6.6%), these people would vote for him again if they could. the media (who sponsors most of them) knows but does not want you to think these polls are inaccurate. gullibility is not a virtue!
